Scholarship Award Programs

The North Carolina Motorsports Foundation was established to support the racing industry of North Carolina. The major focus is the support of education through scholarship awards for students aspiring to a career in the motorsports industry. The Foundation has two scholarships – the NCMF General Scholarship Awards and the Sam Belnavis Scholarship Award.

NCMF General Scholarship Awards

This scholarship program provides a minimum of three awards annually. Amounts for each may vary based on certain criteria, however the aggregate sum for 2016 is $5,000. Depending upon the annual yield of applications, additional awards may be given. However, in the case of more than three awards, the aggregate amount will not exceed the funds available for each budgeted year

The General Scholarship Awards may from time to time bear a specific name or title for which it is being given based upon Committee consensus, recommendation of the Executive Committee or the NCMF Board of Directors. Click here for application.

To be considered for an NCMF General Scholarship Award, candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Entering or currently attending a North Carolina educational institution which may include: Four-year College or University (graduate and post graduate), Two-Year Community College, Technical or Trade School.
  • Aspire to a career in motorsports.
  • Good scholastic standing (2.5 GPA).
  • 250-word description stating the need for a scholarship

NCMF Sam Belnavis Scholarship Award

This award is given annually and for 2016, the award amount is $5,000. The award is named for Sam Belnavis, a 30-year veteran of the racing industry serving numerous capacities including Marketing Department Manager for Miller Brewing Company, Chief Diversity Officer & Owner-Designate with Roush Fenway Racing and NCMF Chairman of the Board of Directors. He currently serves as Chairman Emeritus of the NCMF Board of Directors. Click here for application.

To be considered for the Sam Belnavis Scholarship Award candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Entering or currently attending a North Carolina educational institution which may include: Four-year College or University (graduate and post graduate), Two-Year Community College, Technical or Trade School.
  • Aspire to a career in motorsports.
  • Good scholastic standing (2.5 GPA).
  • 500-word essay stating the need for the scholarship and why motorsports is the chosen career path.

2015 Timeline

  1. 2015 Application period opens Monday, August 18 closing Friday, October 16
  2. NCMF Education Committee selects and notifies institution and recipient of award*
  3. 2015 scholarships announced in November

*Funds shall be provided to school for dispersal to recipient.
